Linn-Benton Women's head basketball coach Jerod Gibson, Friday, October 28, 2022. Jerod has been the head coach of the team for five years and has enjoyed every second of his leadership. While attempting to build upon the team's 15-11 record in the previous year, Jerod is excited to feature his star point guard on this year's team. Graduating from Linn-Benton in the 90s, Jerod enjoys building bonds with both his fellow coaching staff and players, as well as students as the school. Jerod's goal is to win a league championship, but says that he has not given much thought to coaching at a university some day. Jerod believes that positive encouragement and an inviting attitude, as well as positive statements of belief are the key to developing a winning team. Focusing much of his interview on his coaching, Jerod says that he tries to keep his personal life separate from his professional life, but enjoys participating in character building with his players, whom he hopes to

An employee of Sully's Doggy Daycare, Wilkerson has been employed for the company for 18 months and hopes to continue assisting animals for the foreseeable future. A typical day on the job includes feeding the animals, keeping them company and taking them on walks while also cleaning the offices and maintaining the grounds. In his ambitions to keep the property appealing to customers, he says that he maintains the grounds at least once a week. Around Town - Week 3 Photos

In this close-up photo, we see a Halloween-themed yard decorated with a monolithic Grim Reaper and wooden clock. Taken in the middle of October in South Albany, the Reaper seems to wait for his next visitor as if it is scheduled by appointment. The evening light pours into the frame while the Reaper and his hourglass count down the hours that someone has left to live. A local Albany man sits on his porch with his eyes transfixed to his phone. On a warm Autumn evening, the man enjoys his home while perhaps wating for dinner to cook. Taken on October 13th, 2022. A local motorcyclist waits for a pedestrian to cross the street before continuing his trek on the pavement. Taken on October 13th, 2022 in South Albany. Moderate traffic in the background seems to bode well for easy riding while the biker waits to resume his journey.

Photographer of the Week - Stephen Wilkes

My photographer's name is Stephen Wilkes. Hailing from New York, he graduated from Syracuse in 1980 and opened his personal studio in 1983. What stands out to me about Wilkes photos is the day/night exposure. It serves to create a juxtaposition of day life and night life, not only illuminating the differences between day and night behavior, but also in how nature differs as well. We can see how flowers are open during the day and closed at night, while simultaneously witnessing how trees largely appear the same. Wilkes claim-to-fame is likely the day/night exposure effects. I do not recall seeing broad landscape photos which capture day and night in the same frame before. Three Facts about Stephen Wilkes Fact #1 His work has been featured in eight museums, including the National Geographic Museum. Fact #2 His work specializes in cityscapes, landscapes and day/night exposure. This creates images which depict life over multiple timeframes in one photograph. Fact #3 In 2000, he w

Down the Road In this far shot, we see multiple cars lined up along the sides of the road, displaying the competition for curb-side space on a busy saturday. By midday, or about 3pm, almost all of the available spots have been taken up, indicating that members of the community may have retired early on saturday, or are spending their weekends at home, potentially with family.

Gas Powered Entertainment In this frame, we see several youth of Albany, who declined to be named. They are, ironically, operating their self-propelled vehicles at a gas station. While two members of the group take a break, one does a trick for the others to emulate or better. The shade offered by the gas station and the open view for onlookers seems to be the reason for their site selection.

McDreamin

McDreamin Cars wait in line at the drive-thru, ready to order their meals. This photo, a medium shot of a McDonald's drive-thru, captures one of the most quintessential aspects of American life; McDonald's. While most of us may not be particularly proud or boastful of eating at the fast-food giant, it is safe to say that nearly every American has eaten as the restaurant at some point. This image depicts drivers awaiting their orders, presumably during a lunch break, or perhaps on a day off.
