Around Town, Week 2



Albany worker Brad Wilkerson waters plants while on the job on September 29, 2022. An employee of Sully's Doggy Daycare, Wilkerson has been employed for the company for 18 months and hopes to continue assisting animals for the foreseeable future. A typical day on the job includes feeding the animals, keeping them company and taking them on walks while also cleaning the offices and maintaining the grounds. In his ambitions to keep the property appealing to customers, he says that he maintains the grounds at least once a week.


A local Albany driver passes by in a blue truck on Thursday, September 29, 2022. While stopping at the intersection the driver, Alan, said he was heading towards the I-5 highway to Salem to his brother's house, hoping to enjoy a family get-together and a nice dinner.


 

Linn-Benton Community College student Maria Cervantes studies in the campus courtyard on Thursday, October 29, 2022. In her second year at LBCC, Maria says that she hopes to graduate this year with an associate degree in biology and then head to Oregon State University to complete her master's degree. While normally doing her studying at home, Maria occasionally makes use the campus grounds for studying, especially in good weather.

Continued Excellence: Q&A with Linn-Benton Volleyball Coach Jayme Frazier with LB at 23-0

With the their NWAC regular season drawing to a close, The Commuter interviewed Linn-Benton Head Volleyball Coach Jayme Frazier about the incredible season her team is having. The Roadrunners are defending NWAC champions, having finished the 2022 season with a 34-1 record alongside their conference trophy. While their fans are hoping for a repeat, Coach Frazier maintains her focus on the present. After 23 games in 2023, Linn-Benton remains undefeated, having been taken to 5 sets only once. Propelled by returning players from the 2022 title team, such as  Grace Boeder , LB fields a slew of freshman who have stepped in to pick up where departing players left off. Named head coach of the Roadrunners in 1993, Jayme Frazier has been leading LB every year except 2000. Study Abroad Offers at Linn-Benton for Summer 2023

The opportunities to be found at Linn-Benton seem to be limitless, and for those looking to broaden their cultural horizons and travel, this summer offers lucrative opportunities. For those interested in improving their Spanish speaking skills in a Spanish speaking country, building upon their culinary skills, or bringing song to the British Isles, Linn-Benton is offering students tales to tell for a lifetime. These study abroad offers are available to students at the college and the time to apply is drawing near. Each of the trips will offer college credits. The first of these events is a study abroad trip to Costa Rica and is led by faculty member Margarita Casas. During the voyage, students will be housed at the Monteverde Institute, which is located in the lush rainforests of the Central American nation.
