Spring Term 2023 Blog Update

Welcome back to my blog! Since my last blog post I have solidified my decision to be a Journalism major and a Spanish major. I really enjoyed making my contributions to the Commuter and participating in school journalism last term.

I think that in this feature writing class, I will enjoy formulating my formats for writing more stories for the Commuter as they grow more sophisticated in their structure and precise in the unfolding of their narratives.

What I'm looking forward to learning in this class is the different types of articles that might be written for newspapers or online media and the manner in which material might be presented in an engaging way.

I think that my first goal for the term is to create a format for my research summary pieces, because I love to read peer-reviewed journals and present the information from them in a simple format that is easy for persons to understand who have a limited education in the topic at hand.

My second goal is to write 10 pieces for the Commuter over the course of the term and expand my portfolio of Journalism. Now that I'm the news editor for the commuter, I have a much bigger role in helping determine the materials that will be selected for inclusion in the printed edition will be.

My third goal for the term is to create a format for other types of writing, including op-eds and opinion pieces, as well as scientific literature reviews and sports articles. I think that these are very accomplishable goals and will simply require devoting the time necessary to creating their formats.

In my personal life, I am searching to buy a new car as well as expanding my academic acumen by taking 19 credits and so far it is going fairly well. There is a lot of writing that I have to do, but I know that if I simply dedicate my time to doing as much that it will be possible to succeed and excel in my academic studies.

I am hoping that these next 10 weeks are filled with learning and success in my tests. One of the classes that I am very excited to take is personal health, because I feel that will help me manage my time better and create time management studies that increase my writing productivity. One of the interesting factoids that I've already gained from that class is the science of habit formation, which is primarily centered upon replacing old habits with new habits. The research literature emphasizes finding cues to bring us into the unconscious behavior of engaging in the routines for the habits that we want to normalize. I think that my strategy for this is to create a habit out of writing for the Commuter and doing homework with time-of-day as a cue for starting to write and continuing to write. I have already started creating a habit out of doing long readings and I think that this is encouraging for the term. In addition to this I have begun doing all of the homework that is assigned as early as possible.

I look forward to reading this blog post in 10 weeks and assessing My Success for the term. Hopefully, I can get at least straight B's or three A's and two B's. While learning is not solely defined by grades, such success will help me propel my academic career and establish a name for myself while trying to find success in the writing world and professional world as well. It will largely depend on doing homework early and thoroughly and creating key terms lists for all of my classes that include testing.
