Roadrunners Split Again, This Time with Umpqua

Albany- The Roadrunners split another pair of games on Saturday, April 22, this time with Umpqua Community College. 

LB dropped the first contest by a score of 2-1 before winning the second 3-0. The Beaks entered the day with a record of 20-12, including a 15-9 tally in divisional play. At the end of the day, LB stood at 21-13 in the NWAC standings and 16-10 in the South Division. Umpqua started the day with a 19-13 record overall and finished with a 20-14 record after the double header.


In the first game, the Roadrunners managed to get on the board first in the bottom of the sixth inning; Camden Christenson singled to get things started. This was followed by an RBI by Titus Dumitru, who singled to left field and allowed Christenson to score.


In the top of the 7th, Umpqua managed to get two runs home, which proved to be the final scores in the contest.


For the game, LB had 6 hits and struck out 9 times while pitchers Chase Reynolds and Kellan Oakes recorded 10 strikeouts of their own. The Roadrunners were not able to overcome Reynolds’ two errors as Umpqua did not commit any.


In the second game, the Beaks took the lead early, scoring runs in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd innings, respectively. Aidan Dougherty doubled and Ethan Buckley singled which netted an RBI as Dougherty made it home.In the 3rd inning, Kace Naone was hit by a pitch and advanced to first base. Dumitru then singled, and when Dougherty singled once more, Naone was able to make it home for another run.


LB put the game away in the bottom of the 8th as Tyler Pfeifer was walked and then stole second base. When Cole Cramer singled to center field, Pfiefer was able to score.


In the third game, pitcher Dylan Rush made it through all 9 innings, recording 3 strikeouts, walking 2 batters, committing no errors, and allowing only 3 hits. The team had 6 hits to Umpqua’s 3, and all 3 of LB’s runs were RBIs. The Beaks were able to capitalize on the Riverhawks’ 2 errors, while committing 1 of their own that Umpqua could not take advantage of.


With the baseball season entering its final stretch, it is imperative that the team continue to play well as it has in the last month to secure a playoff spot and compete for another title. 


The Roadrunners’ next games are Sunday, April 23 at Umpqua Community College at 1 pm and 4 pm respectively.

Journalism for Spring 2023 in Review

I was able to meet almost all of my goals for this term and progress my abilities in news writing significantly. My greatest accomplishment for the year, and not only the term, was my sports article format. My writing also became more concise as I was able to break large paragraphs into smaller ones as a habit. This allowed me to develop a precision in directing my storytelling that allowed me to explain multiple concepts successively.
