Women's Basketball Team Falls to Clackamas

Albany, Oregon – The Women’s Basketball teams lost to Clackamas Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Entering the game with an 18-4 record, including 8-3 in conference play, the Women lost 81-47 in a game where the Roadrunners could never find their rhythm. The Lady Cougars started the contest with a 16-5 record overall, with a 8-2 in the NWAC.

In what was never a close game, the Cougars led from start to finish maintaining a 17-7 advantage after the first quarter and a 34-18 edge at the half. Madison Dutkiewicz had 6 points and a steal in the first half, while the team made only 3-18 shot attempts in the first quarter and 7-35 attempts in the first half. This included going 0 for 11 on three point attempts in the first half.

The second half provided more of the same, with Linn-Benton being outscored 31-15 in the third quarter. At the end of the game, Muriel Jones-Hoisington was the high scorer for the Beaks with 9 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals. Kathleen Hale added 4 points, 22 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jayden Ray had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists as well.

For the game, the Roadrunners made 17 of 80 shot attempts including 3 of 30 three point attempts. This compared poorly to the Cougars’ 31-59 shooting, succeeding on 7 of 21 three point attempts. LB collected 43 rebounds, 12 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks while committing 11 turnovers. The Cougars had 55 rebounds, 15 assists, 8 steals, and 2 blocks while committing 12 turnovers.

After the game, guard Sabrina Albee was interviewed about the performance of the team. Asked what she thought the difference was between the teams and what she planned on contributing to the team’s next performance she said: “I think that not coming out in the first half and not sticking to our defensive plan got us into a rut. I'm going to think about this game and flush it down the toilet and from here on out the next games are important for us to get into the playoffs.”

Finally, Albee opined on what she thought the team could do to rebound from a down game and be in a better position to win, she said: “I'm going to focus on ball pressure and talking more with my teammates during the plays. I also want to have better communication in transition.”
