Men's Basketball Loses Close Game to Clackamas
Albany, Oregon – The Linn-Benton Men’s Basketball team lost their second consecutive game on Wednesday, Jan. 25, this time to Lane Community College.
The Men’s team entered the game with an 8-10 record, including 3-2 in conference play. This created a fairly even matchup with the Titans, sporting a 6-11 record for the season with a 1-4 record in the NWAC. The Titans won the game 89-80.
The Titans held the lead for almost the entire game, and extended their lead to as much as 15 points in the first half. Lane connected on 18 of 40 shot attempts in the first half, while the Roadrunners only made 12 of 31. Linn-Benton was also outrebounded 20 to 15, and the Titans collected 7 turnovers to the Beaks’ 4. In addition to this, Lane delivered four blocks to Linn-Benton’s 1 in the first half of play.
The Beaks, however, continued to claw at the lead and closed the game several times. A supportive home crowd cheered on the Roadrunners while they battled throughout the game. It was a much closer second half, with each team scoring 49 points. Three point shooting in the second half may have been the difference, as Lane netted 5 of 11 three pointers, for 15 points, while the Roadrunners made only 1 three pointer.
This 12 point differential in second half three point shooting was the difference in the game.
Several Roadrunners put forth strong performances, including TJ Zimmerman, who added 23 points and 10 rebounds to the team’s effort. Ayden Foster contributed another 21 points and made all 8 of his free throws.
The Roadrunners can look to their 17 of 19 free throw shooting as encouragement for their future games while trying to collect more turnovers, forcing only 1 in Wednesday’s contest.
While it is never a good thing to lose at home, Beaks will seek to start a winning streak in their next game while maintaining their excellent free throw shooting.
