Men's and Women's Basketball Teams both Fall on the Road at Clackamas

While it is shaping up to be an incredible season for Linn-Benton basketball, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams hit a stumbling block on the road at Clackamas Community College on Wednesay, January 23.

The men’s team kept it competitive in the first half, keeping the game tied at 45, before falling behind in the second half as the contest ended with a score of 97-89 in favor of the Cougars. This brought the Men’s basketball team to a record of  8-10, though still sporting a winning record of 3-2 in NWAC conference play.

While home field advantage proved too much to overcome for the Roadrunners, several players played excellent basketball, including #1 Tyson Parker, who scored 27 points while connecting on nine of 13 attempts and making seven of eight free throws. #5 Ayden Foster collected 11 rebounds, and #44 TJ Zimmermann contributed 24 points on nine of 20 shooting and making 5-6 free throws.

The difference for the men’s team appears to have been partly in block, of which Clackamas recorded eight and Linn-Benton recorded three. The Cougars also nabbed 11 steals to the Roadrunners four.

The Women’s basketball team fell to the Cougars as well, with the Clackamas prevailing 76-67. This dropped their sterling record to 14-2, including a brilliant 4-1 in NWAC conference play. The Roadrunners’ performance was not without some excellent play from the Beaks, however, as #21 Brooklynn Hankwitz scored 24 points on eight of 14 shooting with eight made throws on nine attempts in addition to 14 rebounds. #4 Ruby Krebs added 12 points and made three out of five three pointers.

For the women’s team, turnovers were likely the biggest difference in the contest, with the Roadrunners committing 18 turnovers to the Cougars seven. This allowed the Cougars to attempt 70 field goals to the Roadrunners 53 where the final differential in the contest was nine points.

What’s Next

Both teams will seek to rebound in spirit and on the court, as the Women’s basketball team plays Wednesday, January 25 against Lane Community College at the Benton Center at 5:30pm while the Men’s basketball team follows at 7:30pm.
